Matt Hurst
Partner - Transport Planning & Operations
Transport planner with over 25 years’ experience in public transport infrastructure, network design, and demand forecasting across Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. Matt played a key role in shaping long-term service and corridor planning in Sydney, including operational planning for the 2000 Olympic Games and contributions to state-wide strategic transport frameworks.
His consulting and agency work has supported major projects for Transport for NSW, the Australian Rail Track Corporation, and Swiss Federal Railways—where his recommendations on network efficiency enabled more than CHF 2 billion in avoided infrastructure spending. He has deep expertise in service modelling, rail corridor design, and the integration of land use and transport investment.
Matt is published in his field, notably co-authoring the book Improving Customer Experience, acknowledged as a reference for several Australian Parliaments and being added to the US Library of Congress. He lectures in transport planning at the University of New South Wales, contributing to the development of future infrastructure and planning professionals.
